MANDATORY OSHA PROGRAM 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM 2 CEUs
This program will review occupational safety and health, with discussion of the bloodborne pathogen standard, exposure management and control programs mandatory for a safe working environment in the dental office. Information obtained will comply with OSHA-required annual retraining requirements for dental hygienists. This program will also present various resources from which to obtain more training.
Brushing up on Nutrition Myths
10:15 AM - 12:15 PM
This workshop will identify the relationship of certain nutrients and oral health, dispel certain nutritional myths and apply general nutrition principles. In addition, the dental hygienist will learn how to recognize signs and symptoms of common nutrition deficiencies which may be observed in patients.
Weighty Matters
1:15 PM - 3:15 PM This workshop will investigate the epidenic of obesity in the United States , the serious health and economic consequences related to obesity and offer a multitiered approach necessary to combat obesity.

Healthy Weight Management
3:30 PM- 4:30 PM
This workshop will explain the concept of what is meant by a healthy weight and differentiate among the following conditions: underweight, overweight, and obesity. Nutritional concepts pertaining to energy banance, metabolism, disordered eating and eating dirorders will be explained. Finally a basic plan for healthy weight loss and/or weight gain will be described. This will include discussion of fad diets, dietary supplements, healthy weight loss.weight gain and the importance of exercise for successful weight loss and health maintenance.

Trisha Cloutier, Associate Professor in Dental Hygiene, Sophomore Clinical Coordinator, and Student Advisor for ADHA at Bristol Community College, graduated from CCRI with a Certificate in Dental Assisting, AAS in Dental Hygiene and AA in General Studies.She continued her education at URI obtaining her BS in Dental Hygiene and MA in Adult Education. In addition, she completed advanced clinical education and is licensed in local anesthesia. She has an active role in the development and implementation of infection control polices and protocols at BCC. She lives in Bristol with her husband and 2 daughters.

Kathleen M. Laquale, PhD, ATC, LAT, LDN
Dr. Laquale received her undergraduate degree in Physical Education (1976) at the University of Rhode Island and her master’s degree from Indiana State University (1977). A worksite change began her tenure at Rhode Island College, where she served for 13 years as the head athletic trainer and adjunct professor. In 1996 and 2000 she was selected to serve on the medical staff for the Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia. In 1990, Dr. Laquale started her doctoral work in food science and nutrition at the University of RI. Upon completion of her doctorate work in 1994, she became a licensed dietary nutritionist. The fall of 1997 marked her career change from athletic trainer to professor at Bridgewater State University where she is currently a full professor in the Movement Arts, Health Promotion, and Leisure Studies department and teaches nutrition and athletic training courses.
Dr. Laquale’s background in physical education, athletic training and nutrition has placed her in demand as a guest lecturer at the local, district, national and international levels of various organizations. Dr. Laquale has been published in numerous peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed journals and has been a contributing author in several textbooks. She has served as Associate Editor of the International Athletic Therapy Journal and is a reviewer for the Journal of Athletic Training and the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Metabolism. Dr. Laquale has been interviewed by the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Consumer Reports, WebMD and Health Magazine. In 2010 she was interviewed by the producer of the CBS Morning Show and on June 10, 2012 was interviewed at the channel four studio in New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Laquale holds membership in the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutrition)(a dietetic practice group of the ADA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)The RI Athletic Trainers Association, the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the RI Nutrition Council.
