Why is attending Continuing Education Courses Important?

Attending continuing education courses not only keeps you up to date on the latest developments within your field, but also makes you a more valued member of the dental team.  Dental hygiene is not static.  New approaches to established procedures can always be improved upon with scientific research.  Without access to new information you lose your vital edge as a practitioner.

How many credits do I need to maintain my Rhode Island Dental Hygiene license?

The Board of Examiners in Dentistry requires that dental hygienists obtain a minimum of 20 CEU's during a 2 year period to maintain their license in good standing.   This mandate includes at least one (1) hour of an OSHA course per year.  Twenty credits represent the minimum requirement.  However, the more time spent in study of dental hygiene/dentistry, the better prepared the practitioner.  Random audits of licensees are conducted.
